Reestablishing our Prarie

30 Years ago we started our quest to reestablish a Prairie on our 160 acres of Livestock and Grain Farm Land operation.

We have had many successes along with some failures. Which it seems is inevitable.

We have some Native Prairie, but most is reestablised. There is Big Blue Stem, Little Blue Stem, Indian Grass and many Wild Flowers.

We are members of the Iowa Prairie Network and also volunteer for the Iowater Program. There are 3 streams which disect the land. Hilton Creek being the largest Perennial Stream. Sandersfeld Creek has its confluence with Hilton Creek on the Prairie. We have mapped out all the streams in Iowa County and looked into the History of them. That alone has been very interesting.

We do periodic burns of the Prairie in the Spring time.
