Background

One reason we are planting trees at the Timber is we are trying to reestablish it as it might have been before our family arrived on the scene. The 2 acres has been in Corn and Soybean rotation for about 50 years. The ground has been leased to Holden Foundation Seeds of Williamsburg for almost all that time. Monsanto Purchased Holden Seeds a few years ago.

In 1993 The Timber was flooded for several months due to one our worst floods in History. The worst up until that time. Surpassing the 1969 flood. The Coralville Reservoir is down stream on the Iowa River close to Iowa City.

In 1998 we experienced a straight line wind which devasted the trees. The  timber was a very nice woodland, but not more.

In 2003 there was a fire which was started aby a passing train on the Cranidic Railway,  which didn't do us any favors either. The fire damaged many good trees expecially the Shellbark Hickories.

In 2008 We experienced a record flood from the Iowa RivThat flood went ofer the spillway at he the Coralville Reservoir.

You can see that every 5 years we are meeting with a disaster of some sort. We always keep in mind that God is in control of everything and especially His Creation. We are only caretakers of His Creation while we are here. It is not us who owns it anyway.
